Personal Profile

Who Am I?

My name is John Alexander Rowley, a computer scientist, Software Engineer and general IT Professional. I study Computer Science (Software Engineering) BSc at Nottingham Trent University and currently working at Fisher Scientific as a website designer as part of my third academic (placement) year.

A little about me

I would describe myself as a friendly, outgoing and diligent young man, with a strong set of both technical and professional skills required for a variety of computing practices. I have a genuine interest in computing and technology, and thrive to excel in the subject both as part of a team and independently.

My time at University

Time at university so far has developed both my personal and professional aptitude. Time management and team communication as well as many technical abilities such as system analysis, application design and software implementation have all been improved upon.

A year in industry is proving both enjoyable and beneficial, enabling me to gain experience in the workplace and also put into practise many aspects of my computing degree.

Hobbies and Interests

Gadgets and technology play a major part in my life, as well as fitting into my degree and career aspirations perfectly. I am always on the lookout for the ‘next best thing’ and am a huge fan of ‘The Gadget Show, ‘.NET’ magazine and similar media. as well as being a member of both the Nottingham Trent and British Computer Societies.

Another hobby of mine is drumming and music in general. I have performed with several bands and played a variety of musical styles since the age of 14. I also have distinctions in several levels of keyboard and piano performance.

Sport has a large influence on my life, playing matches with friends including rugby, football and particularly ice hockey (previously for both local and university teams). I also enjoy watching professional games, particularly USA’s National Hockey League season.
