Technical Skills

Did you know? For student’s starting on a 4 year technical course, half of what they learn in their first year will be outdated by their third year!

Technology is always moving, and I love keeping up to date with lots of different practises by putting my knowledge and skills to use in the real world. Here are just a few of the technical abilities I have picked up and built upon during both my time at university and outside of education. They contain knowledge on software, concepts, languages and practices;

  • Microsoft Operating Systems (XP/Vista/7)
  • Linux Operating Systems (Ubuntu)
  • Microsoft Office (Word / Excel / Access / etc)
  • MS Project / MS Visual Studio / MS Visio
  • Macromedia Suite (DreamWeaver / Flash / Fireworks)
  • Select SSADM Professional
  • Adobe Photoshop / InDesign / Illustrator
  • AutoDesk 3D Studio Max / Unreal Editor
  • FileZilla / CuteFTP
  • Data Flow Diagrams / Structure Tree Diagrams
  • Basic Circuit Design
  • Business modelling
  • Promotional Design / Marketing Development
  • Database Design / Software Design / Network Design
  • System Analysis
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Computer Mathematics
  • Multiple modelling Techniques
  • Printing techniques
  • C++ / Objective-C
  • Java / JavaScript
  • HTML / CSS / PHP
  • ActiveScript
  • Binary / Octal / Hex
  • SudoCode / Structured English

There are countless abilities which I believe I know which comes from a variety of sources. Weather it is self-taught, learnt from Youtube, a friend, colleague or university lecturer I hold the information and try to use it on a daily basis. Having been a strong computer user from a very early age has given me solid foundations to build upon with more complex areas.

If I don’t know how to do something, I firstly try logic to see if there is a simple solution. Failing that I research the problem using forums, advice and other resources eventually finding a solution which works. I will more often than not also blog about the problem, and more importantly how to solve it, so that people who have similar issues can hopefully resolve the issue too.
