Yelp! For iPhone

I’ve just downloaded ‘Yelp!’ for the iPhone, a simple app which let’s you search the local (and not so local) directories for business’ and people.

I’m currently sitting in costa coffee, writing this on my phone. I searched for nearby coffee shops and costa came up as 0.0miles away, with a photo, contact details and reviews. Other categories include shops, resteraunts and pubs, and each has a large archive of places to go – the best selection of any vicinity based app I have used.

What’s more it has ‘monocal’ mode which takes advantage of augmented reality – it’s the best exaple of the software to date too!

What a wonderful little app! Best of all it’s free!

The best game on the iPhone I think is ‘Orbital’.

It’s a brick-breaker styled game, shooting from the bottom of the screen like in bejewelled. The graphics are great, not to mention the simplistic yet addictive game play which makes for a unique experience.

It’s all about shooting circles and watching them grow as you blast other circles at them, consequently blowing them up! Each circle that explodes is a point. My highest score is (currently) 34 although I’m intending on improving it this Friday on the train down to London.

You can try it out at http://www.orbital-game.com/ but for £0.59 you can play it for hours on the iPhone, and it looks and feels even more amazing!

#60SecondShout (or #60SS) is a trending topic (established via Twitter), which I designed to summarise lots of my smaller blogs – Those that can be read in less than 60 seconds!

I wanted to produce a type of blog which fell in between a micro-blog (140 characters) and some of my more heavy weight blogs (140 lines!).

Hopefully they will be insightful, interesting and full of techy goodness, while remaining concise and to the point!

If you have any requests for some more 1 minute reviews let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

As you may have read in my previous post there are a number of factors Orange are using to influence customers.

An application entitled ‘Orange Wednesdays’ has recently been released, allowing Orange users to get there discount code via the app. Now, I’m on O2, so don’t have this option… Or do I?

Yesterday I started testing the application to see if a work-around could be found, with success. By typing in an Orange number into the ‘Phone-number’ field, it sends a validation email containing a 4 digit PIN to that phone. If you then type that PIN into the confirmation field you can request and successfully receive Orange Wednesday discount codes on your O2 iPhone, while the Orange mobile receives a text confirming the code too.

I know this is no more advanced than getting someone with an Orange phone to forward on the message, but it’s much, much easier and less hassle too!
